November Awareness: Supporting Men’s Health in the UK

Updated: 12 hours ago

November is a powerful month of awareness dedicated to men’s health issues across the UK and beyond. From prostate cancer and testicular cancer to mental health and suicide prevention, this month encourages men to take charge of their wellbeing—and reminds us all to offer support, understanding, and open conversations.

At Huntley Care Specialist Home Nursing, we believe that great care starts with compassion, dignity, and personalised support. This November, we’re shining a spotlight on the health challenges men face and how our home nursing services can empower you or your loved ones to live confidently and comfortably.

Prostate Cancer Awareness

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. Early detection saves lives, and awareness is the first step.

What to look out for: - Difficulty urinating or reduced flow - Frequent need to urinate, especially at night - Discomfort or pain when sitting (enlarged prostate)

How we support you: Our nurses provide personalised care plans, symptom monitoring, and post-treatment support at home, helping men maintain independence while receiving compassionate clinical care.

Testicular Cancer Awareness

Testicular cancer is highly treatable, especially when detected early—but many men feel unsure about checking themselves or seeking advice.

Important reminders: - Regular self-checks can detect lumps or changes early - Most cases occur in younger men (15–49)

Our role: We offer educational guidance, emotional reassurance, and ongoing support for clients undergoing treatment, ensuring comfort and confidence throughout their care journey.

Men’s Mental Health & Suicide Prevention

Men’s mental health is often overlooked, with societal expectations making it difficult for men to open up. Suicide remains one of the leading causes of death for men under 50 in the UK.

Signs someone may be struggling: - Withdrawal from friends or activities - Persistent low mood or irritability - Changes in sleep or appetite - Expressing feelings of hopelessness

How Huntley Care helps: We provide holistic, person-centred care that values emotional wellbeing as much as physical health. Our nurses foster safe, supportive environments where clients can talk openly, access resources, and feel respected.

Your Home, Your Health, Your Way
